About Me

Hi, my name is Kate! I'm a math student at Swarthmore College, and I worked on the Math Images Project during the summer of 2011.

I like elephants, Venn diagrams, and chocolate. I have a lot of Salvador Dalí and M. C. Escher art in my room, and my favorite book is Gödel, Escher, Bach. I also really like knots - I created the pages Quipu and Perko pair knots, and in my spare time I like to draw Celtic knots out of this awesome book.

The first time I realized how much I loved math was when I took a precalculus class at Philips Exeter Academy's Summer School. I took the class because I'd had a suspicion that even though math class was awful, I might actually like math, but I was surprised by how much I loved the summer class. I got to talk in class, and put problems on the board every day, and do all sorts of really difficult and interesting homework problems! It was amazing.

Ever since then, I've been interested in finding ways to make math more interesting, which is how I ended up working at Math Images!
